Overnight field trips are always popular with club members and now we have five new ones sure to appeal to most everyone. As on our past trips you’ll be going with like-minded photographers working to shoot in the best light possible. Your next best photo trip starts here, so save the date(s)!
Nightscapes in Capitol Reef, June 23-24, 2017. Join Club’s very own nightscape artist extraordinaire, Shayne Shaw, for a weekend of nighttime shooting in Utah’s beautiful Capitol Reef National Park. Capitol Reef is home to some of the darkest skies in Utah. Shayne will set us up in the best locations so that you can get the most out of the stars and Milky Way. Come and experience the beauty of the desert at night! This trip will be limited to 10 participants. Registration will open soon, so save the date! A block of hotel rooms will be held for participants, but feel free to find your own room or camping accommodations.
North Rim, Grand Canyon, August 4-6, 2017. Last year’s trip was so successful that we just had to do it again. We’ll hit the rim in prime monsoon season to maximize the dramatic weather as it sweeps across the canyon. In addition to glorious sunrises and sunsets, there is plenty of daytime photographic interest in and around the park. The Club has reserved a group campsite that can accommodate up to 25 people. Click here for campground information. Like last year, we will also try to offer a backcountry excursion for those who wish, weather and road conditions permitting. Registrations will open soon.
Capitol Reef and Boulder Mountain, October 2017 (dates TBD). There is no better place to be for a fall photo adventure. We’ll visit some of the area’s most stunning canyons and soaring rock formations. We’ll also capture the gorgeous fall colors on Boulder Mountain. This trip may involve some moderate hiking for those who wish. You will be sure to get to know the Capitol Reef area in a whole new way! A block of discounted hotel rooms will be held for participants, and registration will open late summer.
Yellowstone in Winter, January 4-7, 2018. Club member and professional tour guide, Rob Daugherty, will lead us on a photographic adventure through Yellowstone in its winter glory. If wildlife is your thing, this is going to be spectacular! We’ll photograph plenty of the area’s wildlife in their snowy habitat. We may see bison, foxes, elk, bighorn sheep, maybe even wolves. Come see Yellowstone like never before! This trip will be limited to 15 participants, possibly a few more. A block of discounted hotel rooms in Gardiner, MT is already held for participants. Registration will open soon!
The Palouse, late spring 2018 (end of May or early June, dates TBD). The velvety green hills and bright yellows of the canola fields lend themselves to some of the most photogenic landscapes you can find. In addition to the classic rolling hills scenes that are found virtually everywhere you look in the region, there are many old barns, rambling fences, and rusted trucks. We will be based in Colfax, WA, which is either a long drive or a short flight. Registrations for this trip will open in the summer of 2017 so that people can plan well in advance.
At present we are finalizing the registration system, but when needed for selecting for right-sized groups is required, we’ll be using our standard random selection system.
On all trips, you are responsible for your own transportation arrangements and costs, as well as your expenses for hotels/camping, and food and beverages. Participants are encouraged to carpool whenever possible, and you maybe required to carpool while on a trip. Each trip may also include a small registration fee to cover some of the club’s costs associated with organizing trips. If you are interested in one or more of these trips, please email Claudia O’Grady.
